Menteri besar Aminuddin Harun said the proposal for a blanket ban will be discussed at the next state executive council meeting, Bernama reported.
“I’ve also requested stricter enforcement against the sale of mushroom vape products – that’s the most urgent issue to resolve.
“There are so many variants now. Whether it’s electronic cigarettes or otherwise, modern or not, they all have negative effects,” he was quoted as saying after chairing the state executive council meeting here today.
Aminuddin also urged local councils to stop approving new vape licences and to better coordinate rules on signage and advertising for vape products.
“We’ll now check with local councils on how many shops are selling vape, and look at what action needs to be taken.
“Sometimes traders use other types of business licences but sell vape products on the side,” he said.
Terengganu and Perlis will ban the sale of vape products from Aug 1, joining Johor and Kelantan, which implemented bans in 2016 and 2015, respectively.
Kedah has decided not to impose an outright ban but to stop allowing the renewal of business permits for vape traders once their licences expire.
Selangor and Penang are still weighing a blanket ban.
