PETALING JAYA:
A Shah Alam Bersatu member has criticised the party’s leadership over repeated delays in holding the division’s internal elections, saying the issue is disrupting Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) preparations for the next general election (GE16).

A letter from the Bersatu election committee dated Dec 9 instructed the Shah Alam division to reconvene its conference in January, with a team assigned to oversee the election for the 2025-2027 term. However, the conference was postponed and has yet to be reconvened.

Ahmad Azarul, a former Shah Alam Bersatu Youth chief, accused Bersatu secretary-general Azmin Ali of failing to resolve the matter.

Saying that two previous attempts to hold the polls had been postponed, Ahmad asked whether the delays were deliberate and called for a clear explanation from the party.

“The secretary-general has experience in handling party elections. I want to ask him why Shah Alam is the only division in the country that hasn’t completed its polls,” he said.

“Who is accountable for these delays? Many delegates are disappointed with the leadership’s decisions.”

He said the failure to conduct elections had stalled Bersatu’s grassroots work in Shah Alam and left members unable to answer questions from local PN leaders.

Ahmad also voiced concern that the party seemed increasingly driven by individual interests rather than collective goals.

“With less than two years until the next general election, we should be strengthening our grassroots work. Are we going into GE16 in this disorganised state?” he asked.
