According to sources, the three suspects – a business manager, a department head, and a branch manager – are believed to have collectively possessed, laundered, transferred, and used money obtained as bribes from three companies in 2024.
Preliminary investigations suggest the department head is believed to have solicited and received more than RM170,000 from the three companies that submitted five loan applications totalling over RM21 million.
“The bribes were given in return for processing and approving the companies’ loan applications,” the source said.
They were detained this afternoon, between 4pm-5pm, at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya while giving their statements, according to the source.
The source also said that MACC has frozen four individual bank accounts worth approximately RM268,000 and seized three telecommunication devices and a laptop following the arrests.
The MACC’s anti-money laundering division director, Norhaizam Muhammad, confirmed the arrests.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1)(b) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act.
All suspects will be brought to the Putrajaya magistrates’ court tomorrow morning for a remand application.
