PETALING JAYA:
An unemployed man pleaded not guilty in the Kota Bharu sessions court today to stabbing his older brother in the ribs with a stingray barb at a house in Bachok, Kelantan, on May 1.

Sinar Harian reported that Izwan Sukarnor, 36, entered his plea after the charge against him was read before judge Zulkifli Abllah.

He was accused of causing severe injury to his brother, Fakhran, 40, by stabbing him with a stingray barb.

He allegedly committed the offence at a house in Kampung Pauh Jabit, Beris Kubur Besar, Bachok, at 9.30am.

Izwan was charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means, read together with Section 326A of the same code, which provides for up to 20 years’ imprisonment or a whipping upon conviction.

The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Kamarul Hasyime Rosli while Izwan was unrepresented.

The court denied Izwan bail and set June 16 for re-mention of the case.

It is understood that the attack followed an argument between the brothers.
