PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has inspected premises belonging to social media influencer Aliff Ahmad as part of a probe into a Facebook post in which he allegedly touched on race, religion and royalty.

The MCMC said the matter is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (CMA) for improper use of network facilities, Harian Metro reported.

“The inspection was done after the MCMC obtained a search warrant issued by the Kuala Lumpur sessions court under Section 247 of the CMA.

“A mobile phone and SIM card were seized for further investigation,” the MCMC said in a statement.

Separately,  Malaysiakini identified the premises involved as the Scrut Auto vehicle inspection workshop in Kuala Lumpur, which Aliff is a co-founder and owner.

It said a joint team of police and MCMC officers spent more than five hours yesterday at the workshop.

Aliff’s lawyer, Haziq Aizuddin Subhi, said the team arrived at the premises at about 5pm and left close to 11pm with his client in tow, to the Pudu police headquarters.

“He (Aliff) handed over his mobile phone at about 5pm. They wanted to access his Facebook account, but there were ‘login issues’ that dragged the situation until close to midnight,” he said.
