Tang Jie-Wen Tse showed that they could be a force to be reckoned with in the future by defeating Indonesian pair Bobby Setiabudi-Melati Daeva Oktavianti 22-20, 21-10 in less than 30 minutes.

They had notched an impressive win over Taiwan’s Lui Chun Wai-Fu Chi Yan in the first round before overcoming Indonesian pair Marwan Faza-Aisyah Salsabila Pranata in the last 16.

They will meet Indonesia’s Jafar Hidayatullah-Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu, who are ranked world No 22, in their semi-final match.

However, Loo Bing Kun-Ee Wei were defeated by Indonesia’s world No 64 pair Dejan Ferdinansyah-Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti in three games in their quarter-final match.

The Malaysians lost 22-20, 17-21, 12-21 in a match that lasted 60 minutes.

The Indonesians will play world No 35 pair Yuichi Shimogami-Sayaka Hobara in the other semi-final.

Men’s singles player Justin Hoh and women’s singles representative K Letshanaa failed to make it past the quarter-finals after a great run in the first two rounds of the championship, defeating much higher-ranked rivals.

Hoh, ranked world No 45, lost easily to Taiwan’s Wang Tzu Wei 13-21, 15-21 in 40 minutes.

The 50th ranked Letshanaa, who showed early promise with determined display in the earlier rounds, again put up a credible performance stretching her world No 15 opponent from South Korea Sim Yu Jin to three games.

Letshanaa battled for 55 minutes before bowing out 16-21, 21-13, 15-21.
