39 students, school staff in Kedah hospitalised due to ‘infectious disease’

Some 39 people, comprising students and staff from a school in Yan, Kedah, have been hospitalised after falling ill due to a yet-to-be-identified “infectious disease”.

State housing, local government and health committee chairman Mansor Zakaria said all the victims showed signs of a fever, cough and rashes after attending a private training camp, Berita Harian reported.

“A total of 763 students and staff from the school participated in the training,” he said, adding that he planned to visit the training camp later today.

According to Mansor, the students are being treated at Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Sungai Petani, and are in stable condition.

He said the state health department has been informed of the incident and investigations are ongoing to determine its cause.
