PETALING JAYA:
A total of 14,179 students who took their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination last year recorded straight A’s, the education ministry said today.

Education director-general Azman Adnan said this year’s results were the best in 11 years, after the government made it mandatory for students to pass Bahasa Malaysia and history.

He said the 14,179 straight-A students was an increase from the 11,713 recorded for the 2023 SPM results, Utusan Malaysia reported.

The number of candidates who passed the overall examination also increased to 136,791 from 131,489 in the preceding year.

Azman said the number of candidates who did not sit for the exam went down from 8,676 in 2023 to 6,246 last year.
