PETALING JAYA:
Fresh elections for the Jempol PKR division are to be held because the candidate who won the chairman’s post was found to be a Pejuang member, says party vice-president Aminuddin Harun.

Aminuddin, who is also Negeri Sembilan PKR chairman, said the fresh polls will be conducted this week, based on a decision made by a PKR central leadership council meeting yesterday, Bernama reported.

“She only resigned from Pejuang after winning the Jempol division chief post. Following a thorough investigation, it was confirmed she was still a member of Pejuang.

“For the sake of the party’s integrity, we had to disqualify her. The party will now review the status of all division chiefs and if similar cases arise elsewhere, the same action will be taken,” he told reporters after an event in Seremban today.

The Jempol division chief post was won by Azizah Salim Shah, who secured 450 votes, defeating G Manivannan (248 votes), Asri Abdullah (83 votes) and K Mariappan (52 votes).

The elections for the party’s divisions in Negeri Sembilan were held on April 13.

Earlier today, PKR election committee chairman Dr Zaliha Mustafa said Jempol was one of three divisions that needed to conduct fresh elections.

She said internal notices would be sent to the divisions involved.

Zaliha was responding to speculation about re-elections in the three divisions following complaints from several candidates who were defeated in the party polls.

When asked if the defeats of several high-profile names in the divisional elections were legitimate, Zaliha said the party had received complaints.

These would be reviewed by the complaints and objections committee, chaired by Ahmad Kassim.
