PETALING JAYA:
A 17-year-old boy has claimed trial at the Seremban magistrates’ court for reckless driving that resulted in the deaths of three teenagers on March 6.

The teenager pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to him before magistrate Nurul Azuin Talhah, Sinar Harian reported.

The teenager, who was driving a Honda Jazz, is accused of causing the deaths of Aidil Ramdan Abdullah, 15, Aswari Lotpi, 16, and Aisar Azim Abdullah, 17, by driving dangerously at a traffic light junction on Jalan Persiaran Senawang 1.

The first charge was framed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, punishable with imprisonment between five and 10 years and a fine of not less than RM20,000 but not more than RM50,000, upon conviction.

The teenager was also charged under Section 26(1) of the same law for driving without a licence, which carries a punishment of a fine of not less than RM300 but not more than RM2,000 or imprisonment of up to three months, or both, if found guilty.

Deputy public prosecutor P Rubini asked the court to fix bail at RM8,000 with one surety. However, defence counsel Johan Radzi requested for a lower bail amount.

The magistrate set bail at RM4,300 with one surety and fixed May 21 for mention of the case.
