PETALING JAYA:
A former assistant bowling coach has been ordered by the Kuala Terengganu High Court to begin serving a six-year prison sentence after losing his appeal against his conviction for sexually assaulting a Sukma athlete.

Justice Hassan Abdul Ghani upheld the sessions court’s ruling on Mat Salleh Jalani, 62, who was found guilty on May 16 last year, Bernama reported.

“The court dismisses his appeal and upholds the sentence imposed by the sessions court,” Hassan said, ordering Mat Salleh to begin his prison sentence starting today.

On May 16 last year, the sessions court found Mat Salleh guilty of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy at a housing estate in Marang in March 2018.

He was sentenced to six years in prison.

Deputy public prosecutor Nur Nabihah Hanin Ayim appeared for the prosecution, while lawyer Wan Suhaili Wan Ismail, who represented Mat Salleh, said her client would be filing an appeal at the Court of Appeal.
