Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the probe would follow the same procedure as the one involving two Chinese-language dailies that published flawed illustrations of the national flag.
“I take this opportunity to remind all parties that the national flag is a symbol of our national identity, carrying deep meaning and significance.
“Any form of negligence, carelessness, or oversight that could cause public unease must be avoided,” he told a press conference.
The controversy erupted after a display of the Jalur Gemilang at the Singapore Lactation Bakes booth during the TCE Baby Expo went viral on social media.
The flag, seen behind the stage, was missing the crescent moon. Singapore Lactation Bakes has since issued a public apology for the oversight.
The incident came after the Sin Chew Daily newspaper published a graphic illustration featuring the Jalur Gemilang without the crescent moon, leading to a police investigation.
Sin Chew swiftly apologised for the “technical mistake” and suspended its chief editor and deputy chief sub-editor pending the outcome of investigations.
Kwong Wah Yit Poh is also being investigated over a Facebook post purportedly showing the Jalur Gemilang without the crescent moon.
On the Sin Chew case, Saifuddin said that the investigation would be conducted “responsibly and in accordance with existing laws”.
