KUALA LUMPUR:
MyDigital ID app users may enjoy higher discounts on fines for traffic offences under police jurisdiction, says home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

He said future matters involving the traffic investigation and enforcement department will see more priority placed on users registered with the online identity verification platform.

“Discounts that were previously 50% may be 55% on the app.

“Registering with the app on your phone is easy and quick,” he said at the police Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house here today.

Saifuddin also said the government had agreed to amend the National Registration Act 1959 to enable the official and comprehensive use of digital identification.

MyDigital ID is a government initiative for secure and authenticated online identity verification, developed since 2016.

The digital identity system will be used by both the public and private sectors to verify user identities when conducting online transactions.

In December 2023, Saifuddin was quoted as saying the government had targeted 10 million registrants in the first quarter of 2024.

However, MyDigital ID Sdn Bhd’s statistics as of last October showed only over a million people registered.
