In his winding-up speech at the Perak state assembly today, Woo said the picture of Perak opposition leader Razman Zakaria was satire and a form of democratic expression.
“I know some got triggered by the image in my media statement where I described someone as the ‘king of slander with a stench but no corpse’.
“In a democracy, you can satirise and I can disagree, and at the same time, I can satirise and you can disagree. That is everyone’s right,” Utusan Malaysia quoted the domestic trade, cooperatives, consumer affairs and new villages committee chairman as saying.
Earlier, Razman demanded an apology from Woo over the image which he said displayed “immaturity and irresponsibility”.
The Perak PAS chief said he would file a formal complaint and initiate legal action against Woo if he fails to apologise or remove the post.
He urged the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to immediately investigate and take action against Woo.
Woo pointed out that DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook responded calmly and even thanked critics for the attention when caricatured previously.
“But, when the same thing happens to those who usually do it to others, they can’t take it and get angry,” the Pasir Bedamar assemblyman said.
DAP vice-chairman Nga Kor Ming previously slammed PN for using caricatures that appeared to mock Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Loke during nominations for the Ayer Kuning by-election on April 12.
Nga said the caricatures did nothing to contribute to nation-building.
