KUALA LUMPUR:
Police have busted a drug syndicate that sold cannabis-laced cookies online at RM90 per packet following the arrest of eight people, including two women, in Kuala Lumpur.

City police chief Rusdi Isa said police first raided two residences in Mont Kiara at 2.20am on April 16, leading to the arrest of seven suspects, aged 20 to 28.

“We discovered three bags containing about 32kg of compressed cannabis and 2kg of cannabis cookies,” he said at a press conference at the KL police headquarters.

In a second operation, police raided another residence on Jalan Duta at around 2pm on Thursday and arrested a 31-year-old man.

“A search of the suspect’s car uncovered a box containing 7kg of cannabis cookies,” he said.

In total, police seized 32kg of compressed cannabis and 9kg of cannabis cookies with an estimated street value of RM105,000.

Rusdi said the syndicate had been active since last year and obtained its supply of cannabis from a neighbouring country via an online platform, before distributing the drugs to local customers.

“They used numerous online platforms such as Telegram to sell the drugs and employed a courier service to deliver the items directly to customers,” he said.

Initial urine tests found that five suspects tested positive for cannabis. Two suspects have records for criminal offences.

All eight suspects have been remanded until Wednesday to assist in investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking.
