PETALING JAYA:
A woman driver has pleaded not guilty in the Kuala Terengganu High Court to a charge of attempted murder in connection with a crash that killed three Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Dungun students and seriously injured another in October last year.

Norizan Ismail, 50, made the plea before Justice Hassan Abdul Ghani after the charge was read to her by an interpreter, Bernama reported.

According to the charge, the mother of three children is alleged to have committed the act at 7.35pm on Oct 9, 2024, at Jalan Pantai opposite the university, under Section 307(1) of the Penal Code.

If convicted, she may be jailed for up to 10 years and fined, and since injury is involved, she may be jailed for a maximum of 20 years.

Ammar Danish Ridhuan, 20, was injured after being allegedly hit from behind by the accused, who was driving a sports utility vehicle (SUV), while riding a motorcycle.

Three friends who were also on motorcycles with him – Akmal Tukirin, 25, Ku Adib Aizad Ku Azmi, 20, and Khairil Anwar Jamaludin, 20 – died at the scene.

Deputy public prosecutor Khairuddin Idris prosecuted, while Norizan was represented by lawyer Shahri Mat Jusoh.

The court set May 20 for the submission of trial documents.

On March 2, Norizan claimed trial to three counts of murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code in the case of Akmal, Ku Adib Aizad and Khairil Anwar.

She had been declared fit to stand trial following a psychiatric evaluation report obtained from Hospital Permai in Johor.
