BUTTERWORTH:
A new RM8.7 million water pipeline at Sungai Perai has been fully installed and will become operational after it is connected to the existing pipeline next week, chief minister Chow Kon Yeow said.

The new 1.35-metre diameter pipe will be connected to the existing pipe that channels water from the Sungai Dua water treatment plant.

The final connection will be made during the scheduled water supply interruption from April 23-26, when water flow from the Sungai Dua plant is stopped.

Work on the new pipeline took place over 15 months, he said, after a leak in the pipeline at Ampang Jajar, led to the state government deciding to build four new pipelines across the Perai river.

“Two temporary bypass pipes beside the Kampung Jajah bridge have been installed but we need to carry out the final connection at the last location,” he said.

Work on two other sites in Kampung Telok and Kampung Jajah will proceed next year, he said.
