
Penang executive councillor Fahmi Zainol and PKR deputy secretary-general Zakwan Mustafa Kamal failed to upset the incumbent chairmen of Jelutong and Tasek Gelugor.
In Balik Pulau, division leader Bakhtiar Wan Chik was ousted by his former deputy, Tuah Ismail.
It was a slim defeat for Fahmi, the Pantai Jerejak assemblyman. He obtained 181 votes while Johari Kassim was re-elected with 208 votes.
Bakhtiar, a former deputy minister and Balik Pulau MP , lost the divisional chairmanship by 727 votes to Tuah Ismail’s 864 votes. Tuah is a former assemblyman for Pulau Betong, which is in the Balik Pulau parliamentary constituency.
In Tasek Gelugor, Penang deputy chief minister Mohamad Abdul Hamid fended off a challenge from Zakwan by 412 votes to 319 votes. Zakwan, a former aide to home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, was previously the division’s treasurer.
PKR president Anwar Ibrahim’s daughter, Nurul Izzah, was reelected the head of Permatang Pauh PKR uncontested, while education minister Fadhlina Sidek won the Nibong Tebal PKR chairmanship with ease.
Fadhlina, the Wanita PKR chief, received 677 votes in a three-cornered race, with Muttaqeen Mustafa and Navalan Abdullah only getting 335 and 72 votes, respectively.
Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin also comfortably defended his position as division chief, he received 1,032 votes against his sole challenger, Cheah Peng Guan, who obtained 425 votes.
In Pahang, executive councillor Sim Chon Siang failed to wrest the Kuantan chapter’s chairmanship from incumbent Fakhrul Anuar Zulkawi, a Kuantan city councillor.
Chon Siang, a three-term Teruntum assemblyman, managed to get 575 votes but lagged behind Fakhrul’s 659 votes.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s political secretary Ahmad Farhan Fauzi was elected Indera Mahkota PKR chief unopposed.
