
A spokesman for the Sarawak fire and rescue department said they received an emergency call about the incident at 11.57pm.
The operational response team from the Bintulu fire and rescue station was immediately deployed to the scene, located about 2km from the station.
“The four-wheel drive vehicle was driven by a Chinese national, who escaped unhurt. Two victims travelling in the car were killed. They were identified as Yiu Siew Lee, a woman aged 34, and Janam Ampar, 44,” the spokesman said in a statement today.
The two other passengers travelling in the car, who were seriously injured, have been identified as Wilson Tawi, 24, a local, and Anis Sintiabella, 19, an Indonesian national.
The two injured victims were rescued by passersby, who stopped to help, and subsequently transported to Bintulu Hospital for further treatment.
