KUALA LUMPUR:
Malaysia Airlines Bhd has rejoined the ranks of the world’s top 50 airlines under the latest Brand Finance Airlines 50 2025 report.

Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) managing director Izham Ismail said the national carrier has recorded a 209% surge in brand value, making it the fastest-growing airline brand globally.

He described the milestone as a reflection of the airline’s renewed commitment to excellence and customer service.

“We’ve re-entered the Top 50 in the Brand Finance Airlines 50 rankings, with a 209% increase in brand value — a testament to our vision of elevating our promise to customers,” Izham said at a press conference during the launch of Malaysia Airlines’ collaboration with English football giants Manchester United.

Yesterday, MAG announced that it had recorded a net income after taxes of RM54 million for the financial year ended Dec 31, 2024, marking its third consecutive year of positive results.

The group also recorded an operating profit of RM113 million and earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation of RM788 million.

Izham also announced that Malaysia Airlines will launch direct flights to Brisbane, Australia, from Nov 29 as part of MAG’s strategy to expand its presence in the Australian market.

“MAG is looking to make further inroads into the Australian market. To support this, we will be tripling our capacity with three daily flights to both Sydney and Melbourne,” Izham added.

“Customers will enjoy greater flexibility in making their bookings, with flights available three times a day to these destinations.”

He said the company has no plans to introduce additional European destinations following the launch of its Paris route this year. However, it will reassess the possibility of expanding into Europe over the next five years.

The airline also announced an increase in economy class baggage allowance to 20kg.

Malaysia Airlines also unveiled its new Manchester United-themed livery, which seamlessly integrates the colours of the Malaysian flag with those of the football club’s.

Present at the launch were MAG chief operating officer Nasaruddin A Bakar and chief commercial officer Dersenish Aresandiran.

Former Manchester United stars Luis Nani, Nemanja Vidic, and Dimitar Berbatov also made special appearances.
