Restaurant owner fined RM1,000 for failing to ensure smoke-free premises

The restaurant owner in Seremban pleaded guilty to failing to ensure that no customers were smoking on his premises.

A restaurant owner was fined RM1,000 by the Seremban magistrates’ court for failing to ensure that no customers were smoking on his premises last year.

Berita Harian reported that the 52-year-old pleaded guilty after the charge was read before magistrate Nurul Azuin Talhah.

The offence was committed on Sept 3, 2024, in Taman Permai 3, Seremban.

The restaurant owner was charged under Sub-regulation 12(1)(b) of the Control of Tobacco Product Regulations 2004, punishable under Sub-regulation 12(3) which carries a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to one year.

The prosecution was led by Seremban health office assistant environmental health officer Vivig Dinesh Vigane Swaran, while the accused was unrepresented.
