
KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here has allowed former prime minister Najib Razak to pay his last respects to his predecessor, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, amid his ongoing 1MDB trial.
The court adjourned the trial at around 9.50am to allow Najib to make his way to the National Mosque, where Abdullah’s remains are lying in state.
Earlier, Najib’s counsel Shafee Abdullah informed Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah that the prisons department had granted Najib permission to pay his last respects to Abdullah, popularly known as Pak Lah.
According to the Prime Minister’s Department, the lying-in-state will take place at the mosque’s main prayer hall from 11am to 1pm.
Abdullah passed away at the National Heart Institute at 7.10pm yesterday. He was 85.
Najib’s proceedings resume tomorrow.
