PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian arrested by Thai authorities last Wednesday for suspected involvement in a goldsmith shop robbery in Hat Yai has been confirmed to have a criminal record with 10 previous cases, two of which are serious crimes, in Malaysia.

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said the 62-year-old man is wanted by Malaysian police for a murder and another case under Section 3(1) of the Emergency Ordinance 1969, among others, Bernama reported.

He said police will review the investigation paper on the man before pursuing his extradition.

“Malaysian police were informed immediately after he was detained in Bangkok over an armed robbery in Hat Yai.

“He is being held in the Hat Yai police lock-up for investigation, and we will further review the offences he committed in this country for extradition,” Razarudin was quoted as saying.

He said further checks found the man was not staying in Malaysia and was using fake documents to hide in Thailand.

He said the Thai authorities found the man in possession of a suspected fake Thai identification card and without a Malaysian identity card or passport.

Previously, Thai police said a Malaysian in his 60s was arrested in Nonthaburi, Bangkok, for suspected involvement in a goldsmith shop robbery in Hat Yai on April 8.
