PETALING JAYA:
The policeman who allegedly shot himself in the head at the Penang police contingent headquarters last week was known to be facing personal issues, including financial problems, Penang police chief Hamzah Ahmad said.

Hamzah said the findings were based on statements recorded from nine individuals including the policeman’s ex-wife, his friend, a forensics expert, a medical officer, and several other police officers who filed a report on the incident.

“Investigations are ongoing, and we will record statements from a few more people as the next step,” he said after an event in Kepala Batas last night, Harian Metro reported.

Last Thursday, police confirmed that the policeman, Francis Aruputham, had died at Penang Hospital.

He had been in the general intensive care unit after initially being placed in the neurosciences intensive care unit.

Francis, a corporal assigned to the camp commandant’s branch, had suffered serious head injuries.
