Flood victims increase in Selangor, Sabah, drop in Johor

In Selangor, a new relief centre was opened in Subang Jaya, as the number of victims in the state rose to 1,191 this morning.

KUALA LUMPUR:
The number of flood victims at relief centres  in Selangor and Sabah recorded a slight increase this morning, while the situation in Johor is improving.

In Selangor, the number increased to 1,191 as of 8am, from 873 people last night.

According to the social welfare department’s InfoBencana, the victims are at six relief centres, comprising three in Shah Alam, two in Klang and one in Subang Jaya, which opened last night.

In Sabah, the number of flood victims in Nabawan increased to 383 this morning, up from 263 last night.

According to the state disaster management secretariat, the floods affected 28 villages, forcing the evacuation of the victims to five relief centres in Nabawan.

The Sook district is also affected by the floods and a relief centre was opened at Dewan Kampung Membulu at 4.45am today, but the number of evacuees has yet to be ascertained.

Nabawan and Sook are districts in the Sabah interior, located 174km and 147km, respectively, south of Kota Kinabalu.

In Johor, the number of flood victims at the relief centres at SMK Seri Gading dropped slightly this morning to 203, from 210  yesterday.

State disaster management committee chairman Azmi Rohani said all the victims are residents of Batu Pahat.

Sungai Senggarang in the Batu Pahat district is at the warning level with a reading of 3.16m, while Sungai Batu Pahat is at an alert level of 2.30m.

The weather in all districts in Johor was reported fine this morning.
