PETALING JAYA:
A single father pleaded not guilty in two separate sessions courts today in Johor Bahru to charges of robbing two women last week.

Berita Harian reported that Abdur Razzaq Suppiah Abdullah, 36, was charged before judge Thalha Bachok @ Embok Mok with robbing a 52-year-old Indonesian woman of her bag, passport, jewellery and purse, injuring her severely in the process.

The offence was allegedly committed behind a shop on Jalan Seri Putra 1, Bandar Putra, Kulai, at around 8.26am on April 4.

He was charged under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery, read together with Section 397 of the same code, which provides for up to 20 years’ imprisonment and a fine or whipping if convicted.

In another court, before judge Che Wan Zaidi Che Wan Ibrahim, Razzaq was charged with robbing a 37-year-old Malaysian woman of her bag, two identity cards, bank card, mobile phone and RM200 in cash.

He was charged with committing the offence at a self-service laundromat on Jalan Impian Senai Utama, Taman Impian Senai, Kulai, at around 8.45am on the same day.

The charge was made under Section 392 of the Penal Code for robbery, which provides for up to 14 years’ imprisonment and a fine or whipping if convicted.

It was reported on Wednesday that police arrested the man on suspicion of involvement in two armed robbery cases less than two hours after the incidents were reported last Friday.

Kulai police chief Tan Seng Lee said the Indonesian woman sustained injuries to her left arm, believed to have been inflicted with a parang.

Razzaq, who was unrepresented, requested a lower bail amount as he supports a 12-year-old child.

“I work alone, repairing motorcycles at my home, making around RM1,500 a month,” he said.

Judges Thalha and Che Wan Zaidi allowed bail of RM9,000 and RM10,000 respectively, and ordered him to report to a police station once a month, surrender his passport to the court and not disturb the victims and prosecution witnesses.

Both cases were set for re-mention on May 13 for the appointment of lawyers and handover of documents.
