Zulfika Abdul Rahman, 33, pleaded guilty at the Ampang magistrates’ court today after the charge was read out to him before magistrate Amalina Basirah Top.
According to the facts of the case, a group of 10 men assaulted Syafiq Akmal Ahmad Kamil, 38, in front of a house at Taman Sri Keramat at around 11pm on March 30.
The charge sheet said the men hit Syafiq on the head with brass knuckles and sticks, resulting in injuries to his head and right eye.
They also allegedly stomped on his body.
Another accused, Haziq Hezri, 22, pleaded not guilty.
The charge against the duo stated that they, along with eight others still at large, were members of an unlawful organisation and had orchestrated a plan to assault the victim.
They were charged under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting, which carries a maximum jail term of two years, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
In mitigation, lawyer Wan Nur Afifah Che Bakar pleaded for leniency for Zulfika, saying he only earns RM1,000 a month as a security guard.
Afifah also said Zulfika is his family’s sole breadwinner and has two young children, one of whom is autistic.
The court was told that Haziq, who is single, only earns RM1,700 a month helping his mother sell kuih.
The court allowed Haziq bail of RM6,000 and fixed May 16 for case mention.
Norhidayah Abdullah Sani appeared for the prosecution.
