PETALING JAYA:
The customs department in Pahang has for the first time successfully foiled an attempt to bring in 30 tonnes of tin ore worth nearly RM3 million.

The tin ore was being offloaded from a ship at a jetty near Rompin when the raid was conducted at 2am on March 11, Bernama reported.

Pahang customs director Asri Seman said a Malaysian man and four Indonesian men, aged between 23 and 53, were arrested.

“Upon inspection, the enforcement team found a lorry carrying tin ore packed into sacks.

“In total, 600 sacks of tin ore, each weighing 50kg were seized. In addition, we also seized the lorry and ship involved to aid in investigations,” he said at a press conference in Kuantan today.

Asri said the syndicate had imported the tin ore from a neighbouring country without valid documentation.
