KUALA LUMPUR:
There is a notable rise in interest from Malay youths and women in joining DAP, says the party’s vice-chairman, Syahredzan Johan.

Speaking at a press conference alongside Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman, Syahredzan said the party’s efforts to promote it among the Malay community will continue.

“We believe that if one wants to join the party, they must truly understand and embrace the party’s struggle.

“What we want to do is introduce the party to youths, including Malay youths,” the Bangi MP said.

The push for greater Malay involvement comes on the heels of the DAP national congress in March, when Syahredzan and Syefura were elected to the party’s central executive committee (CEC).

Syahredzan also said DAP’s leadership choices are based on the individual’s capability, not on race or religion.

“Although fewer than 10% of DAP’s delegates or members are Malay, the recent congress still gave both of us the opportunity to lead or be included in the CEC,” he said.
