The Kedah Pakatan Harapan chief has demanded an apology from the social media user, identified as Zubair Ismail, for a March 26 Facebook post which claimed that he instructed the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and the Inland Revenue Board to investigate the club, causing potential sponsors to avoid it.
The post also accused Saifuddin of allegedly attempting to “save” the team in order to present himself as a “hero” in the eyes of the public.
The following day, Zubair allegedly posted a video on his TikTok account regarding the same issue.
“If our client does not receive a satisfactory response within three working days from the date of receipt of this notice, we have been instructed to initiate legal action without further notice,” said the letter of demand by law firm SN Nair & Partners on Friday.
“All costs, losses, and legal implications arising from your failure to act will be your sole responsibility.”
The letter also stated that Zubair’s social media posts have caused Saifuddin to be perceived in a negative light, especially among football fans.
“Your careless, malicious, and baseless actions have left our client with no choice but to take legal action to defend his reputation and integrity,” it said.
Saifuddin has held discussions with cash-strapped KDA FC regarding the club’s future direction.
Bernama reported that KDA FC, currently 11th in the 13-team Super League, has not paid its players and staff salaries for 10 months.
Last month, Saifuddin presented the team’s players, coaches and officials with a RM200,000 donation for Hari Raya Aidilfitri collected after a fund-raiser led by three NGOs.
