PETALING JAYA:
Police are investigating pro-Perikatan Nasional activist Syarul Ema Rena Abu Samah, better known as “Ratu Naga”, for claiming that pupils at a Chinese school in Perak had sung the national anthem in Chinese.

Syarul had earlier apologised for erroneously making the claim in response to a video of the school event.

Hilir Perak police chief Bakri Zainal Abidin said the video was recorded on June 6 last year at a school in Teluk Intan, and the pupils were actually singing the Perak state anthem.

Bakri said three reports have since been lodged against a “political influencer” over the claim, Bernama reported.

“The political influencer claimed the ‘Negaraku’ was being sung in another language and that this was a breach of protocol involving the national anthem. The political influencer also cited Section 2 of the National Anthem Act 1968 which forbids the national anthem being sung in another language,” he said.

He said the investigation is over making statements that incite public disorder.
