PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian special search and rescue team has managed to extricate eight earthquake victims in Myanmar’s Sagaing district as it entered its fifth day of operations in the country today.

Bernama quoted the National Disaster Management Agency as saying the Smart team is now focusing on the rubble of a school where victims are still believed to be trapped.

Nadma said the victims removed comprised three men, three women and a child, who were found dead, and a man, who was found alive.

It said all 50 officers and personnel on duty in Sagaing are in good condition, although some displayed minimal hot weather symptoms such as hoarseness.

The 7.7-magnitude earthquake last Friday hit Mandalay, Bago, Magway, northeastern Shan state, Sagaing and Naypyidaw, and also affected neighbouring Thailand.

The Malaysian team arrived at Naypyidaw International Airport aboard two RMAF A400M aircraft last Sunday, before travelling 270km by road to Sagaing.
