PETALING JAYA:
A man was crushed to death and three others were injured in a crash involving a car and a container lorry at Jalan Bintulu-Miri, near Ladang 3, 76km from Miri, Sarawak, this morning.

Bernama reported a Sarawak fire and rescue department spokesman as saying the victim, identified as Derald Suggin, 36, was a lorry attendant.

He said the department received an emergency call at 8.23am and a team of five firefighters from the Batu Niah fire and rescue station was dispatched to the scene, located 28km away.

The container lorry and a car, both travelling from Bintulu to Miri, were believed to have grazed each other in the incident.

New Straits Times quoted initial reports as saying the container lorry crashed into the road divider before landing on its side, crushing its cabin.

“There were four victims in total. Two people from the car and the lorry driver were taken to a nearby health clinic by passers-by.

“A tow crane was used to help remove the trapped victim, but he was later confirmed dead,” the spokesman said.
