PETALING JAYA:
The Kedah government is set to draft new guidelines to prohibit the ownership of aggressive dog breeds as pets.

Bernama quoted state housing, local government and health committee chairman Mansor Zakaria as saying this after five people were mauled by two Rottweilers in Taman Desa Bidara, Kuala Ketil, on Tuesday.

The Rottweilers were reported to have escaped from their cage.

“Such aggressive breeds are not suitable for residential areas. This is already the second case.

“This time, there were five victims,” he said in a statement.

Mansor said he had met the dogs’ owner, who had agreed to allow the veterinary services department to put the Rottweilers down.

He also visited all the victims, who are currently receiving treatment at government and private hospitals.

“Their injuries are quite severe and they are also traumatised (by the incident). They hope this case will be resolved properly, which is why we will draft guidelines to prevent such incidents from happening again.”

Meanwhile, Kedah veterinary services department director Dr Shaharul Amar Talib confirmed that both Rottweilers involved in the attack were euthanised yesterday.
