
Kamil Munim, who is the political secretary to Anwar in his capacity as finance minister, said he condemned the incident, and called for an investigation to be carried out.
“Roughing up vendors is a despicable act that cannot be accepted. No matter the justification from DBKL, such cruel and rude actions can never be justified,” said Kamil in a post on X.
“What is the meaning of fasting and doing good deeds during Ramadan if it fails to humanise us and does not bring forth compassion and kindness toward the less fortunate?
“Ramadan must strengthen our humanity and elevate our character,” added the deputy PKR Youth chief.
Two videos on social media show a commotion along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman last night after a disagreement between DBKL enforcement officers and unlicensed street vendors.
One video shows enforcement officers involved in a scuffle with a balloon vendor, who was eventually pinned to the ground.
Several people were heard shouting to the enforcement officers not to harm the man.
FMT has reached out to DBKL and Dang Wangi police chief Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman for comment.
