PUTRAJAYA:
The government has announced that all mobile users will receive a minimum of 5GB of free data on the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil said the offer of free data, applicable for both prepaid and postpaid users, would be available for at least 24 hours, subject to the terms and conditions of participating telecommunications providers.

These include CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, TM Tech, YTL Communications, Pavo Comms, Tune Talk, redONE, REDtone, and XOX.

‘This initiative by the communications ministry, in strategic collaboration with telecommunication service providers, reflects the Madani government’s commitment to prioritising the well-being of the people.

“It also seeks to strengthen relationships through online communication during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations,” he said in a press conference after a Cabinet meeting today.

Fahmi said the free data would benefit about 45 million accounts.

“This is the first time the ministry is working with telecommunications companies to provide a minimum data quota to all Malaysians,” he said.

Telecommunication service providers will announce further details on the initiative, and the public can find the FAQs on the communications ministry’s official website.

Separately, Fahmi said the agriculture and food security ministry reported that local white rice was reaching various locations.

“The ministry is continuously working to identify places that have not received local white rice and deliver it,” he said.

Fahmi said government agencies also noted a drop in egg prices in certain areas ahead of Aidilfitri, describing it as a “positive sign”.
