PETALING JAYA:
The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) has filed a notice of appeal against the RM6,000 fine imposed on a 56-year-old man who pleaded guilty to recording and possessing explicit videos and photographs of his 15-year-old stepdaughter in the shower.

In a statement today, the AGC said it had done so after considering the ruling of the Muar sessions court on March 19.

“Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 provides for up to five years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM10,000 or both,” it noted.

The offences occurred between Sept 17 and Dec 21 last year, and police arrested the man after the minor lodged a report on March 14 this year.

Police investigation found that he recorded her on several occasions without her biological mother’s knowledge.

The victim stumbled upon the recordings while clearing her stepfather’s email storage.

Police also seized his mobile phone, which contained 18 videos and degrading images recorded during the specified dates.
