Adam said he had repeatedly advised the security personnel assigned to him not to obstruct or push other visitors.
“I did notice several instances where their actions were quite aggressive, as if they were trying to ‘clear the way’.
“Even though the event was crowded, it was not excessively packed, and such security measures were entirely unnecessary,” he said in a post on X.
Adam was responding to a post by a netizen, who claimed that “his bodyguards” were unnecessarily “aggressive and rude” while escorting him and his wife to an elevator.
She claimed that she was “almost kicked out of a lift” by Adam and “his bodyguards”, and criticised him for acting like a VIP despite his background as an activist.
Adam said he has never had bodyguards, only an official police aide-de-camp and a ministry driver who accompany him during work events.
“They were on break yesterday. I attended Riuh late last night with my wife at the invitation of its organisers, with no involvement of any of my officers.
“I have always attended this annual event without an escort or security detail. When I arrived, I was informed that they had prepared a security detail for me.
“I responded that I did not need one, but the organisers said they would only be tasked with escorting me from the parking lot to the event,” he said, adding that he initially assumed they were TRX auxiliary police.
Adam said he raised the matter with the organisers following the incident.
“I am not sure how many people I had to personally apologise to last night at the beginning of our visit. I believe she was not the only one who experienced this,” he said.
He expressed regret over the incident, which he said did not reflect his usual behaviour.
