PETALING JAYA:
A two-year-old boy was killed while six people sustained injuries in an accident in Bukit Katil, Melaka, today caused by the driver of a car falling asleep at the wheel.

Melaka Tengah police chief Christopher Patit said the crash, at about 2.40pm, involved a Perodua Axia driven by a woman, 31, with her four children as passengers. The other children were aged seven, four and nine.

Patit said the Perodua was headed from Melaka town towards Tehel when the woman apparently fell asleep at the wheel for a few seconds, Bernama reported. “As a result, the car veered into the opposite lane and crashed into an oncoming Perodua Myvi,” he said.

The toddler died in hospital from severe head injuries at about 4pm while the mother and her other children suffered broken legs and other minor injuries.

The driver of the other car, aged 34, and his 45-year-old brother sustained injuries to their stomach and chest.
