PETALING JAYA:
Malaysia recorded its largest-ever drug bust after police seized 33.2 tonnes of methamphetamine at West Port, Port Klang, on Jan 25.

Bukit Aman said the methamphetamine had an estimated street value of more than RM1 billion.

It was confiscated following a raid on a warehouse at the port, where anti-narcotics officers discovered 166 drums containing the drugs in two shipping containers, reported Bernama.

The two containers were registered as cosmetic processing materials and wax. They were believed to have originated from Iran, and were en route to Sydney, Australia.

He said the operation was the result of intelligence shared between the Australian Federal Police and Bukit Aman, marking the biggest international drug trafficking interception in Malaysia.

Mat Zani @ Sallahuddin Che Ali, acting director of Bukit Aman’s narcotics CID, said cooperation with Australian police was continuing.
