Works minister Alexander Nanta Linggi said the discount would mirror the one introduced during the Chinese New Year celebrations in January.
“We will definitely provide a discount since we did so for Chinese New Year. Of course, we will do the same for Aidilfitri, just wait a little longer. We will announce it soon.
“Be patient, there will be a discount when you return to your hometown,” he told reporters at the works ministry during a visit by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
During Chinese New Year celebrations, the government provided a two-day toll discount from 12.01am on Jan 27 to 11.59pm on Jan 28.
The discount applied only to Class 1 private vehicles.
Muslims are expected to celebrate Aidilfitri on March 31.
Previously, Nanta had stated that the government was reviewing a more targeted approach to assist the public in place of the toll-free scheme during festive seasons. He, however, later said a 50% toll discount would be implemented during all festive seasons this year.
When asked about Anwar’s visit today, Nanta said the prime minister had urged the works ministry to improve its performance and ensure projects deliver value to reflect the funds spent.
“There was no discussion about tolls. More importantly, the prime minister emphasised the need for an efficient government that provides the best service to the people,” he said.
