PETALING JAYA: The Kuala Lumpur magistrates’ court has ordered a freelance pastor charged with murdering his mother three years ago to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
Lawyer Yumni Rafie said magistrate Atiqah Mohamed ordered for N Deanesh, 53, to be sent to Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta to be evaluated for a month.
Atiqah fixed April 18 for the submission of the hospital’s evaluation report.
Yumni and Donald Selvam represented Deanesh, who was in a wheelchair, during proceedings today.
Deanesh is charged with killing his mother, Catherine Daniel, 77, at a house in Taman OUG, Brickfields, between March 21 and 26, 2021.
He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or 30 to 40 years’ imprisonment and a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.
