PETALING JAYA:
Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan has lodged a police report against a netizen who allegedly threatened him on social media.

Syahredzan, a lawyer, said the Facebook user made “threatening comments” against him and this could be considered a criminal offence.

“This (police report) is an important lesson to others who post such comments (on social media),” he said in a Facebook post.

“I am confident the police will take appropriate action.”

In a Facebook post on Monday, the DAP lawmaker said he would give the netizen until noon yesterday to apologise and delete the comment.

The netizen had earlier stated that those who betrayed their race and religion “would be running in fear during the next flying parang tragedy”, in reference to the May 13, 1969 racial riots.

In the recent DAP polls, Syahredzan was one of two Malay leaders elected to the party’s central executive committee (CEC).

Syahredzan was elected to the CEC alongside Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman after securing 2,065 and 1,943 votes, respectively, from the delegates.

He was later appointed as one of the party’s four vice-chairmen while Young Syefura was made assistant publicity secretary.
