Man gets 10 months for possession of brass knuckles

PETALING JAYA:
A construction worker was sentenced to 10 months in prison after pleading guilty in the sessions court in Batu Pahat here today to a charge of possessing brass knuckles, which he claimed were for self-defence.

Fitry Amirul Ezzy Abdullah, 28, pleaded guilty when the charge was read to him before judge Osman Affendi Shalleh.

The judge had ordered that Fitry’s prison sentence take effect from the date of his arrest, March 15, Harian Metro reported.

According to the charge, Fitry is accused of unlawful possession of the dangerous weapon, in front of a house on Jalan Sungai Nibong, Semerah, at 12.30am last Saturday.

The offence falls under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.

The facts of the case revealed that police raided a house and detained the accused, discovering the brass knuckles in his pants pocket.

On the day of the incident, the accused had visited a friend’s house while carrying the weapon, which he claimed was a gift from his grandfather.

The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Sharifah Natasha Syed Ahmad, while the accused was unrepresented.
