PETALING JAYA:
Malaysia will receive two sets of electric train service (ETS) trains from China next month, says transport minister Loke Siew Fook.

Bernama reported him as saying the remaining eight sets of trains will be installed in the country through a factory in Batu Gajah, Perak, and will be operational in stages at the end of this year.

“We will extend the existing ETS services to Segamat because the Segamat station has been completed, but not the Johor Bahru station.

“The service will only reach up to Segamat (for now). Segamat can use the existing trains (while) all the new trains are being prepared,” he told reporters in Seremban today.

Loke, who is also Seremban MP, said this after a meeting with community leaders and a breaking of fast event also attended by Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Aminuddin Harun.

He said Seremban will also benefit as all the trains from Johor will pass through Seremban.

“Passengers from Seremban will have more options, whether to take the train from the south or the north,” he said.

Loke said the Seremban Sentral station is expected to be completed in the next two years, with piling work currently underway.
