Fahmi was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Raya Sama-Sama programme, where 76 veteran artistes and media representatives who had lost their jobs received cash aid and “baju raya” from the ministry.
The communications ministry also donated RM50,000 to the Malaysian Veteran Artistes Welfare Association.
At the event, the association’s acting president, Sandakiah Aziz, submitted 10 proposals to the ministry for veteran Malaysian artistes, including calling for more opportunities for them to perform on RTM programmes.
Sandakiah also mooted a pension scheme dedicated to artistes, the creation of a creative industry fund and for artistes to be given priority lanes at government hospitals.
Fahmi said he would go through the proposals and meet the association next week. “We will see how the government can assist them,” he added.
