Construction worker dies after falling from factory roof

A construction worker died yesterday after falling 12m while repairing the roof of a factory in Perai, Penang, yesterday.

State occupational safety and health department director Hairozie Asri said the 39-year-old Malaysian worker had been employed by a contractor who had been working for the factory for more than a decade.

The man had stepped on a 50-year-old asbestos roof panel which gave way. He suffered severe injuries to the head and was confirmed dead at the scene, Bernama reported.

A stop-work order has been issued pending an investigation by the department, while the factory’s management has also been told to hold an internal probe.
