PETALING JAYA:
Former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob says he will continue assisting the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission in its investigation into a corruption and money laundering case linked to him.

The country’s ninth prime minister spent several hours providing a statement to MACC at its headquarters in Putrajaya today, with a source from the anti-graft agency telling FMT that the Bera MP is expected to return again tomorrow morning.

“I was at the MACC’s headquarters to provide a statement, and I will continue to cooperate with the authorities until the investigation is completed,” said Ismail in a statement.

MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki previously said Ismail was being called in as a suspect in an investigation into four of his former senior officers.

About RM170 million in cash and 16kg of gold bars, worth nearly RM6.7 million, were seized in raids conducted at the residences of the four officers and three other premises believed to be “safe houses”.

Ismail, who was questioned by MACC on Feb 19, collapsed at home on Feb 22 and was hospitalised for blood pressure-related problems.

He was initially scheduled to provide his statement at MACC’s headquarters in Putrajaya on March 5, but this was postponed after he submitted a medical certificate.

A later appointment on March 7 was also postponed after he submitted another medical certificate.

Last Friday, MACC officials interviewed the doctor treating Ismail to determine his health condition and whether it was serious enough to warrant the consecutive medical certificates.
