PETALING JAYA:
KPJ Kluang Specialist Hospital last month became the first hospital in Johor to carry out a cryoballoon ablation procedure combined with Intracardiac Echocardiography (ICE).

Cryoballoon ablation is a groundbreaking treatment for atrial fibrillation or AFib.

It uses extreme cold to isolate pulmonary veins, the origin of abnormal electrical signals.

By combining this technique with ICE, the procedure ensures greater accuracy and safety, providing patients with fewer complications and faster recovery.

KPJ Kluang’s cardiologist Dr Ng Kim Fong said cryoballoon ablation, enhanced with ICE technology, represents a paradigm shift in treating AFib.

Ng said allowing real-time imaging of critical areas, such as the interatrial septum, ensures a safer and more precise procedure.

“This innovation not only achieves excellent outcomes but also eliminates the need for patients to travel far for advanced care.”
