The incident occurred on Friday evening at the KK Super Mart on Jalan Besar in Menglembu, Ipoh, according to animal activist Siti Fauziah Jabbar.
The video, taken from CCTV footage in the store, sparked outrage among netizens on social media after it was uploaded yesterday on the Fauziah Paws Care page on Facebook and on Siti Fauziah’s Instagram page.
“The store manager, who is from Bangladesh, poured hot water on a dog that was simply sitting outside.
“If they didn’t want the dog there, they could have just chased it away instead of resorting to such cruelty,” she said.
Siti Fauziah said she immediately drove to Ipoh yesterday to file a report at the Menglembu district police headquarters.
“The authorities have called in the suspect for questioning. I also brought the friendly dog back to Faith Veterinary in Subang, Selangor, where it is receiving treatment for the burn wounds,” she said.
Acting Ipoh police chief Sajidan Abdul Sukor said police will release a statement soon, Kosmo reported.
In a Facebook post, KK Super Mart said it had also launched an internal investigation and taken appropriate action against the staff member involved.
“The staff responsible was called back to our headquarters in Kuala Lumpur immediately. After a thorough investigation, we terminated the employment contract with immediate effect,” the company said.
KK Super Mart said it had also contacted the pet care facility owner and offered to cover the full cost of the animal’s treatment.
